Champions of Change: The Facilitators Behind NatWest’s #IAmRemarkable Success

What began as a single workshop has flourished into a multi-year movement that has empowered over 3,000 employees-and counting-across the bank.

And the ripple effect continues. As NatWest approaches its five-year #IAmRemarkable milestone, one thing is clear: when people are given the tools and space to own their success, remarkable things happen.

At the heart of it all is a cohort of passionate champions like Lauren Fuller, Kate Visser, Emily Cutler-Ames, and Prakruthi Kanjithanda, who recently sat down with us to reflect on their remarkable journey so far.

How #IAmRemarkable Took Root at NatWest

A simple idea-celebrating your own worth-can transform a culture. By embedding #IAmRemarkable across departments, tapping into word-of-mouth advocacy, and empowering employees at every level, NatWest has helped thousands of people find their voice.

“People saw the impact,” says Fuller. “They saw colleagues getting promoted, winning awards, gaining visibility. And they said, ‘I want that, too.’”

Lauren Fuller, #IAmRemarkable Company Champion and a key figure behind the program’s rollout at NatWest, recalls attending an early session led by an external facilitator. Inspired by its simplicity and depth, she became a certified facilitator and helped embed the initiative across the bank. By 2021, NatWest began training internal facilitators, building a community that remains active today—and are now preparing to celebrate five years of impact in 2026.

From Workshop to Workplace Impact

“In 2020, we ran an internal survey to understand why so few colleagues were putting themselves forward for recognition or awards,” Fuller explains. “The insight was clear: people—especially women and underrepresented groups—felt uncomfortable talking about their achievements. That’s exactly what #IAmRemarkable tackles. It’s not bragging if it’s based on facts”

By integrating #IAmRemarkable into internal programs and providing facilitator training, they equipped employees with tools to reframe self-promotion as a skill of empowerment rather than arrogance. The results were immediate and measurable: award nominations surged by 78% across the bank, with a significant uptick from individuals who had never previously considered themselves worthy of the spotlight.

But this wasn't a top-down directive. The initial spark came from within.

For Kate Visser, a manager at NatWest, the power of the program lies in its accessibility. “It’s one of the few initiatives where you can go from not knowing it to becoming a champion in one hour,” she says. “I’ve never left a session without something to reflect on.”

Opening Doors for Career Changers and New Voices

That authenticity was also what drew Emily Cutler-Ames, who first encountered the program externally via Code First Girls while preparing for a career transition into tech. “The workshop helped me claim space,” she shares. “It planted the seed of confidence. I’ve since felt empowered to nominate myself- or ask others to nominate me-for awards. That wouldn’t have happened before .#IAmRemarkable gave me the language, permission and  confidence to name my strengths- and it paid off in awards and promotions I would never have pursued otherwise.”

Newer employees have also felt its impact. Prakruthi Kanjithanda, a graduate analyst who joined in 2022, said her first workshop helped her shift perspective. “At that stage, you’re doing smaller but meaningful tasks. I learned that impact isn’t always about scale—it’s about recognizing and owning your contributions.”She then began recommending the session to her peers, helping spread the message among new cohorts of joiners.

Following a hugely successful series of Women’s History Month workshops earlier in 2025- with multiple sessions fully booked and waitlists overflowing - it’s clear that momentum for #IAmRemarkable at NatWest is stronger than ever.

Ask Kate Visser what motivates her to keep running workshops, and her answer is simple: seeing people discover their own power.

‘That’s why we do it, isn’t it? To help other people in their journeys of self promotion. It always give me a sense of pride when when you get feedback from a participant who came into the session a little bit hesitant and by the end- once they’ve read through their list of their achievements- you can just see that that marked change in them. It’s absolutely brilliant.’
